Here is an attempt on my part to make a metaphor out of the complexities/experiences of life with reading a book. This piece (ummm…I will let you decide piece of what?) is not like the typical posts that I have been writing…but then again, it is my name in the URL up there…so I think that allows me to go ahead and do something different. Anyways, here is my take…Life…Just Like a Book….
Just like a book…we begin new life experiences with hopeful anticipation that the time we spend and invest will be worthwhile, and maybe even have some sort of lasting and impactful impression.
Just like in life…we try not to judge any book by its “cover”. Instead, we have nothing but good intentions to fully experience the highs, lows, and everything in between for ourselves. We seek out the adventures and want to be immersed in it.
Just like a book…as we get past the “newness” and actually start to be immersed in these experiences, we often start to second guess ourselves. Maybe this book wasn’t as good as I thought Should I just stop reading it now? Maybe read a different one? This book has to get better, more interesting eventually, right?
Just like in life…there will parts of a book that seemingly drag on. Your pace of reading may slow as its now becomes a tedious task. It may even seem like you have been reading the exact same few lines or paragraphs repeatedly. It is like deja vu or Groundhog Day, but absolutley nothing is actually registering.
Just like a book…you may find yourself looking ahead in life. You find yourself flipping forward and taking a peak ahead to find out exactly when this current chapter might end. Hopefully it ends soon, how many more pages? Because this chapter has been long enough and you are done with it. And you are hopeful that the next chapter will be much more exciting and more to your liking.
Just like in life…you may get through a good chunk of a book, and have no idea how..or have any understanding of what just happened.
Just like a book…there will be moments that shock you or bore you. There will be experiences that make you smile, laugh, or cry. And there will be those rare moments that you want to read over-and-over again.
And Just like in life…the book eventually comes to an end.
And Just like a book…you got to decide if you read somebody else’s story…or wrote your very own.
